There have been few better all-rounders in English cricket and with over 12,000 first-class runs and 395 first-class wickets, in addition to many more in the one-day game, the second team have someone who knows exactly what it takes to make it to the top.

White is relishing the chance to mentor and skipper the second team next season, after spending much of this year with them.

"I am really pleased to sign for another year,” he said. “I enjoyed looking after the seconds this season tremendously and I think they need a senior figure to learn from, support them and help them along the way.

“I am really looking forward to continuing in that role next year."
