EPP pair make hundreds

James Hildreth and Jonathan Trott both hit centuries as an England Performance Programme XI made an impressive start to their three-day game against an MRF XI in Chennai.

The pair added 209 for the third wicket to help the tourists post 358 for four at the close on day one after being put into bat.

Somerset youngster Hildreth smashed 136 from 130 while Warwickshire’s Trott made a composed 114 from 193 deliveries.

Kent’s Joe Denly fell early on to Jagannathan Kaushik for two while his opening partner Steve Davies made a steady 29 before falling to the same bowler, caught by Vinayak Mane.

Worcestershire wicket-keeper Davies played as a specialist batsman with captain Tim Ambrose set to keep wicket when his side field.

Trott was eventually third man out caught by Bhavin Thakkar off the bowling of Malolan Rangarajan and Hildreth was dismissed by Edward Kennedy thanks to Gowjith Subash’s catch.

Sussex star Ambrose was unbeaten on 45 along with Kent’s James Tredwell who finished 19 not out.
