Nottinghamshire seamer Mark Footitt has signed a new one-year deal at Trent Bridge, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2009 season.
Footitt made his club debut against Glamorgan in 2005 but has been plagued by injuries and failed to make an appearance in 2008.
However, director of cricket Mick Newell is keen to keep faith in the 22-year-old, who was in the England academy squad during the 2005/06 winter.
“We feel that Mark is a talent worth persisting with because he is potentially the quickest bowler that we’ve got and having a left-arm variation will be a valuable asset,” Newell said.
“Last season was ruined for him because of a run of injuries but he’ll be working very hard to get fit through the winter and it’s up to him to push for a place in the early stages of next season.”
