Kent win final at a canter

Surrey batted first against Kent in the Final at Horsham on a superb batting wicket.

The Surrey innings got off to a slow start and the lack of tempo in the early stage of the innings proved crucial.

After 30 overs the score stood at 105 for one. Surrey then accelerated taking their score to 250 for three in their 45 overs - probably 40 or 50 runs short of a challenging total.

Opener C Evans scored 100 and A cummins scored 51 as they added 125 for the second wicket.

In reply Jim Howgego and Keith Wooding added 74 for the first wicket at a good rate. Howgego playing behind square on the off-side with aplomb.

Taylor then score 51 as the total was taken to 158 for two. Howgego carried on his serene progress to 112 not out at off 116 balls as Kent reached their target with only 2 wickets down and with nearly 4 overs to spare.

Chris Mendham (Kent) picked up the Best Bowler award for his 1-27 from his full allocation of 9 overs and Jim Howgego picked up the Best Batsman award for his sublime century. Both these awards were provided Kreeda, the match ball suppliers for this competition.
