Glayzer century revives Ormskirk

Having all but waved goodbye to any honours in 2008, Ormskirk posted a hefty 115 run win over relegation threatened Maghull to keep their title hopes alive in the Business Assistance Liverpool & District Cricket Competition.

Two cup defeats and a rain affected draw the previous weekend consigned Ormskirk to third place in the table but thanks to a superb 107 from 21 year-old opener Matthew Glayzer, his maiden competition century, Ormskirk moved into second place just 22 points behind Bootle with three games remaining.

Glayzer struck 13 fours and five sixes in a total of 258 for five dec (44.4 overs) with brother Ian adding 48 not out and Neil Wagner 36.

Wagner went on to take two wickets and with Nick Caunce taking a career best 5-37, Maghull were bowled out for 143 (41.1 overs) to stay in the relegation zone.

Bootle were all out for the modest total of 159 (51 overs) against strugglers Wallasey, desperate to preserve their ECB Premier League status. John Murphy took 3-29.

Rain interrupted Wallasey's reply but their tail enders saved the day to deny Bootle their fifteenth win and finished on 116-9, after Ronnie Davis took 4-28 and Adam Warren 3-38.

New Brighton were another team to be hit by the weather. They were in trouble at 50 for five but a stand of 111 between John While (93) and Lawrence Wilson (41 not out) helped Timmy Watkins declare at 197 for seven (53.5 overs) against Prestatyn at Rake Lane with Mario Olivier taking 4-38.

Rain interrupted Prestatyn's reply and they finished on 80 for seven (31 overs), with Buddhika Fernando taking 3-6 and Martyn Evans, 3-36.

Northern were bundled out for 92 in 25.2 overs at Moor Park by Southport and Birkdale, who were still smarting from this week's points deduction from their match with Hightown in July.

England international James Dixon turned in a career best performance with 5-29 and was ably supported by Craig Todd (3-18). Patrick Jackson then made light of the home side's attack, hitting an unbeaten 80 out of 96 without loss (15.3 overs).

Fleetwood Hesketh declared at 221 for two (53.4 overs) against Lytham at Sea Cop with Neil Rimmer (108 not out) and Kasun Bodhisha (86 not out) adding an unbeaten 127 for the third wicket.

Lytham were then undone by the spin of Peter Appleton (6-31), on holiday from Australia, as they were dismissed for 152 (39.4 overs).

Sion Morris (95) was caught on the boundary attempting a six to bring up his hundred. He added 96 for Colwyn Bay's third wicket with Patrick Leach (51).

Dave Taylor also hit 59 and Liam Crilly took 3-69 before he fainted and had to be carried from the field. Formby reached 35 for four (15 overs) in reply before rain ended play.

Bottom team St Helens Recs picked up a rare win at Sandy Lane. Winning the toss, they asked Hightown to bat, dismissing them for 112 after 41 overs, Mark Jenkins taking 3-39.

The visitors slumped to 58 for six but an unbroken partnership of 55 between Anthony Bullick (41not out) and Andrew Critchley (20 not out) saw them through by four wickets after being taken off for a 22 minute rain interval with just two runs required for victory.
