"Taunton has always been a favourite ground, both personally and for the team. Historically we have always done very well there, so hopefully we can continue that tradition" - Charlotte Edwards.

Taunton has been the home of Somerset County Cricket Club since 1882 but it has also served as an athletics track and for greyhound racing.

With the churches of St James, St George and St Mary nearby and the River Tone at the Northern end, Taunton is a quaint ground well-known for its flat wicket and short boundaries.

Generally batter-friendly, it is no surprise that the ground's most memorable moments involve run scoring. It was here that WG Grace scored his hundreth hundred in 1895 and 30 years later Sir Jack Hobbs clocked up his 126th and 127th centuries to take him past Grace's tally.

More recently Viv Richards piled on a rapid 322 against Warwickshire in 1985, three years before Graeme Hick hit 405 not out for Worcestershire - just 19 shy of Archie MacLaren's mammoth score nearly 100 years earlier at the same ground.

The record attendance was recorded in 1948 when 10,000 packed in to see Don Bradman's Australians and the venue also staged one-day internationals during the 1983 and 1999 World Cups.

The ground has undergone some major building work in recent years but it still retains a link with the past - the Ian Botham Stand and Sir Vivian Richards Gates being reminders of two Somerset legends.

Two years ago Taunton was unveiled as the 'Home of Women's Cricket'.
